The QuickPlay download is available on http://www.asifism.com/downloader.

Download Information for HP QuickPlay Direct & HP QuickPlay for Windows
Here’s what you need to do to download HP Quick play. I post keys to the download site http://www.asifism.com/downloader on the home page, http://www.asifism.com.  An easier way to get to the keys is to browse the the hp quickplay category on http://www.asifism.com/category/hp-quickplay-windows-vista/.  The latest post here should have the keys you need to download QuickPlay.   Brow
se over to the home page and look for the latest key for whichever version of quickplay you’re looking to download.
Here are the installation instructions:

What is HP QuickPlay?

HP QuickPlay is a software that comes bundled with most Hewlett Packard & some Compaq Laptops/Notebooks. Ultimately, it’s HPs answer to Windows Media Player in conjunction with CyberLink. The software comes in two versions, direct & windows. You can find more information on the difference between the two versions on the post hp QuickPlay (QPW) Vs. QuickPlay Direct (QPD or HPQPDP). Furthermore, please note that HP QuickPlay Direct 2.3 is no more shipped with HP notebooks. HP claims the software has bugs and issues, and has, therefore, discontinued work on the software. QuickPlay for Windows is, however, still available and is being upgraded, with 3.6 being the latest version. QuickPlay versions 2.3 Direct, 2.3, 3.0, 3.3, and 3.6 are available for download on this site.

You can install QuickPlay Direct (QPD) 2.3 IRRESPECTIVE of what Windows Version (XP or Vista) you use. QPD will be installed on a separate partition with an automated Windows XP installation. QuickPlay for Windows 2.3 is ONLY Windows XP Compatible, and has reportedly had problems with Windows Vista.

All QuickPlay for Windows versions 3.0 & up are Windows Vista compatible only.

Please post any questions, concerns, or comments regarding QuickPlay on the latest download keys post on http://www.asifism.com. The original instructions follow.

======================================

I’ve finally done it. After waiting a few weeks for the recovery CDs as directed by HP, which turned out to be absolutely useless, I scouted the web some more, found out how to install Quickplay on Vista without signing up for the HP Express Upgrade, which is a tedious process and basically gets you a Vista recovery CD specific to your PC model. Now, the orignal instructions that follow are from here: http://www.notebookforums.com/post2542025.html. Credit goes to this guy. Also, Please note the following:

- HP QuickPlay Direct 2.3, whether you install it on a Windows XP notebook or Windows Vista Notebook, will create a separate Windows Xp installation on your drive. So, ultimately, HP QuickPlay Direct 2.3 is Windows XP compatibale ONLY, but it CAN be installed on a Windows Vista Machine too.

- All versions of QuickPlay for Windows after 3.0 are Windows Vista Compatible ONLY.

Here are the instructions for installing QuickPlay Direct 2.3 on your Hewlett Packard PC / laptop:

1. Back up your system in case of catastrophic failure (always a good first step when jacking around with partitions).

2. Download HPQPDP.rar or HPQPDP.zip from http://downloads.asifism.com, using the latest keys on http://www.asifism.com/category/hp-quickplay-windows-vista/. You may have to look for the latest download key post in the HP QuickPlay category on the blog.

3. Extract whichever you downloaded and drop the resulting HPQPDP folder into your :\SwSetup\ folder (mostly for safekeeping purposes).

4. Using PartitionMagic Pro or Disk Management in Windows something else to either shrink your main partition, secondary partition, or whatever. You want to end up with a 1027.6 MB (or 1028 MB) UNALLOCATED area of space at the END of the drive. Go through all the reboots the machine will likely want to make this happen. It can’t hurt to verify that the unallocated space is there and unallocated after all this. (NOTE: If Partition Magic keeps giving errors saying “Selected disk contains one or more Partitions which cannot be moved,” you have a recovery partition that prevents it from doing what you need it to or drive information has changed. You may have to find another way of resizing your partitions or a reboot might solve the problem.)

5. After creating the unallocated space, assign it the drive letter X: but DO NOT FORMAT IT.  Now, hold on a minute.  Please make sure that you have ONLY ONE other partition than X:.  So, basically, C:, followed by X:.  If you have multiple partitions, C, D, etc., there is no guarantee that the QP Direct installation will work.  If you do install QuickPlay Direct 2.3 it with multiple partitions, please manually change your autoexec.ini to the correct windows installation partition to boot with, or your laptop may not boot up.

6. Hie thee to the HPQPDP folder and run setup.exe.

7. Wait.

8. Wait some more.

9. Reboot and keep on waiting.

10. Shut down the laptop and hit the Quickplay button. You WILL most likely see a Windows logo, since QP2.3 is Windows-based whereas QP1.x is Linux-based.

11. Enjoy a celebratory glass of single-malt scotch, and pop in or browse to your favorite flick. This step is optional if you are at work and/or not legal drinking age.

MANY thanks to everyone for their input. Also, thanks to Ericko for the QPv1 image which can now be downloaded from http;/downloads.asifism.com too.  The keys are available on the latest posts along with all other quickplay related download keys.  in case someone’s machine cannot run QP 2.x, and to everyone else that pitched in.

[Disclaimer: the 1.x image may not work in all machines. It looks like it was taken from a disc that shipped with a dv4000 CTO; YMMV. See the following article if you need 1.x:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g…reg_R1002_USEN

If you need QP 1.x and you created your recovery discs you have another option for restoring QP; it is listed in this article.]

This message was typed in anticipation while QP was installing.

[Edit: linusl also provides a more complex way of getting QP2.x to work under different circumstances if your QP partition is still intact - see page 42 of this thread.]

[Edit number 2: Changed slightly since files have been re-uploaded.]

Getting the Authorized or Enabled Machine Error? Try this:

For those people who get the QuickPlay Enabled or QuickPlay authorized machine only error while installing, please try the following:

Using Notepad, make a file and save as .reg with the following:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\QPFlag]
“QPFlag”=dword:00000003
“@=”=””

Then add to the registry by double clicking this file after you’ved saved it and install QuickPlay.

To Install QuickPlay for Windows, here’s what you do:

Extract the appropriate version of the downloaded QuickPlay file from http://downloads.asifism.com into in c:\swsetup and install quickplay from that folder. This is the actual Quickplay for Windows installation, and only after this will quickplay for windows work. . If you want Quickplay 3.0, download it from the provided link and use the setup file in that download rather than the one in the QPW folder. Enjoy, NO thanks to hp.

  1. Ian Says:

Thanks, i have been wondering how to do this for quire some time now.

    but i have 1 question.

is there a way i can install qp in windows? (without the other partition, i am no interested in the booting of it, i just want the software for windows.)

i reinstalled my copy of windows and i lost the copy.

well actually i don’t even need that. all i want is something that will allow me to make the QP and DVD buttons do something. (like make them launch Firefox or some other program)
i know that you can do this in XP but i can not find away in vista.

I am running Vista Home Premium 64-bit

    Thanks!

  2. Asif Says:

    Ian,

I believe you can do this. I’m not sure, since I did the installation for QP 3.0 after I went through the installation process for Quickplay Direct. However, I can assure that if you download the HP Quickplay Windows file (Quickplay 3.0.rar) from http://ridickulous.net/quickplay/ and execute the setup file in the extraction from that, you are not taken to any startups or anything to boot up and change partitions. It simply installs Quickplay for Windows, I believe, without any of the boot up stuff because that, according to my conversation with HP Customer Service, applies only to HP Quickplay Direct. Now, as long as you have the Quick Launch buttons driver installed, the QP button will launch this installation of Quickplay for Windows.

Now HP claims that if you have the original backup recovery CDs, or you ordered ones if you had a back up HDD partition, you can get back QP with that XP Media Center Edition. Not only that, they also claim that if you actually got the HP Express Upgrade kit, it comes preconfigured in that installation with Vista just as it does with the original XP installation CDs.

As for just assigning the buttons a different function, I haven’t had much luck with that, I gave up that pursuit once I had QP up and running.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you need anything, CDs or something, provided you also have a dv2120us.

  3. isa erkuvin Says:

I am also using dv2120us model hp . But unfortunately ı have lost my cd so could you please send me a recovery cd for it? thanks

  4. Asif Says:

Sure, I’ll try and get something up online as an iso or rar. However, they are two CDs, and getting them up could be quite a challenge for the shoddy internet connection here in Karachi. Get me an address, maybe I can mail out CDs. I take it you’re in Turkey.

  5. isa erkuvin Says:

    hi
Thank you very much for your answer and help. Yes I am in Turkey and i had xp media center installed over dv2120. I had it on my hard disk without being saved and then installed vista, After i had installed vista Quick Play didnt work. Now I have installed xp pro. I wonder how can I upgrade back to vista with qucik play working by using the cd that you will send. Do you think in order to use quick play should I re-install xp media center? Or there any other ways to do this? At the moment I have xp pro installed and allocated 1024 mb hard disk space for it and installed HPQPDP. But during start Quick Play isnt working. Do you know what should I do to solve this problem? if there are other ways to solve this proble that you know, I will wait for your answer.

    Thanks
    Isa

  6. Asif Says:

    Isa,

The CDs I have are the original HP recovery discs that come with XP Media Center Edition and all the pre-installed pre-packaged software that comes with HP, including Quickplay 2.3 Direct and Quickplay for Windows (QPW). Now, if you have a copy of vista, you can make Quickplay work with vista (both direct and windows) using the instructions in the main article. The downloads are available from ridikulous.net , and the instructions.

However, if you want to consider using the edition of windows xp pro you’re still running, you might want to try following the instructions in the original article here with windows XP. I see no reason why it won’t work.

When you say “But during start Quick Play isnt working,” what is it that’s not working?

  7. nesko Says:

Hi i am sorry for bothering but i would like to know this:
i have an dv 9000 with vista preinstaled so i don’t like it and have installed XP pro i’ve killed all the partitions and started from scratch.Everything works fine but after i folowed your instructions for quick play installation from step one to nine after reboot machine won’t boot!!!
So becouse i dont have any kind of important data,i’ve booted from XP installation disk and my hard has lost information about partitions!!!So i would like to know where i did wrong?
i had partition x: 1028 mb like you told and downloaded .rar file extracted it run setup everything went fine until reboot. Also is there any kind of event when i reboot after installation that gives a clue what happend and for how long i should keep waiting after reboot!!!??
    thanks

  8. Asif Says:

    Nesko,

An apology is not necessary. The page is open for discussion.

Let me see if I understand what you’ve said. You have Windows XP Pro installed on just one partition. You went through the routine of creating a RAW parition at the end of your HDD again with the 1028 MB parition at the end of of your HDD. You then downloaded the hpqdp.rar file and went through the installation process with it. Then, when you rebooted, your machine won’t boot. What does it do? Do you get to the Windows XP splash screen?

Now, I haven’t installed QP on windows xp myself without original HP recovery discs. But here’s one thing I’m sure of; your BIOS has a different flash version for Windows XP and it has a different version for Windows Vista. If you haven’t flashed it with the XP flash, chances are you will have a problem. I believe this applies primarily to AMD based laptops. See for instance, the Bios Flash Update for the dv9000 CTO here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1842189&lang=en. Since your machine came pre-configured with Vista, you will need this to fix bootup issues, especially when you have a raw partition running to start up Quickplay.

Another thing: did you try and reboot your PC after you made the partitions? Or, did you make the partitions, run the hpqdp set up file, and then reboot. If you’re running windows XP, you need to reboot after you define the RAW X: partition. Only after you will you actually complete the partition. Then, after the this first reboot, you should try running the hpqdp setup, and it should work, provided you have your BIOS flashed for Win XP. If you’ve tried all the other stuff, let me know, and I’ll try working this out on a Win XP Pro machine. Plus, I’ve had several inquiries, so I’m considering putting up HP recovery discs for download; just need to check on the damn user agreement and potential copyright violations.

Hope that helps. Let me know if it doesn’t.

    Asif.

  9. nesko Says:

You are right i did not flash the bios.
“Since your machine came pre-configured with Vista, you will need this to fix bootup issues, especially when you have a raw partition running to start up Quickplay.”
Did you mean some other issues or these issues are refering to reflashing the bios. Please advise
    thanks!!!

  10. Asif Says:

Yes, I believe so. The issues you are having can be a result of the vista bios flash while attempting to boot into xp.

  11. nesko Says:

thanks man i will try and post the result

  12. isa Says:

    Hi Asif

When windows if off and I try to play quickplay windows is starting to work. when i click dvd button quick player is starting to work. is this mean that its working right? my other questions is that if I install vista as well can I use both os without any problem? I will need HP”s recovery CD can you send it to me or upload to somewhere in internet

  13. Asif Says:

That’s right, if those Quick launch buttons get you to QP, that means you’ve successfully installed HP Quickplay. Now, when you install Vista, no, you cannot keep windows XP too. It may be a possibility if you have 2 separate drives, one set to master and one to slave. If you install vista otherwise, it will overwrite your exisitng XP configuration. It sucks. You can, however, run OS X and Vista side by side on a Mac. Here’s one way to run XP on windows Vista using Virtual PC: http://lifehacker.com/software/windows/geek-to-live–run-windows-xp-inside-vista-with-virtual-pc-238071.php?mail2=true. Gina Trapani gives pretty good instructions here on utlizing virtual PC, but beware, it’s a sucker for RAM.

I haven’t gotten around to try uploading the CD yet. Give me 48 hours. I’ll post the results here. If it doesn’t work, you’ll have to email me a mailing address.

  14. Asif Says:

    Isa,

Email me your mailing address. After RAR Compression the ISOs are 5+ GB. No way in hell is that going to upload on the internet connection I’ve got going here, 200 KBps just doesn’t cut it.

  15. Kevin Says:

The website http://ridickulous.net/quickplay/ is not working. Is it removed or only tempararily down.

  16. Asif Says:

Alright, I’ll try uploading them. Give me 24 hours.

  17. Asif Says:

Okay, since ridickulous.net is currently down, here are the links to download HPQPDP.zip (Quickplay Direct) and QPW3.0 (Quickplay for Windows 3.0):

    http://www.asifism.com/downloads/quickplay/HPQPDP.zip and
    http://www.asifism.com/downloads/quickplay/QPW3.0.rar.

  18. Kevin Says:

Asif, could you also upload QPW2.3 software? My HP came with vista, but I have downgraded to XP. Thanks.

  19. Mahesh Chhabria Says:

The links to the HPQPDP.zip files do not work. This is the error tat I get:

    Not Found

The requested URL was not found on this server.

  20. Asif Says:

    Mahesh,

My apologies. I’ve had to take the downloads off. Someone’s bot went haywire with the QP downloads with the result that 3000 GB of available bandwidth was sucked down in less than 24 hours. If you know of a server with unlimited or higher bandwidth allowance, I’ll be more than glad to put the files up there.

  21. Asif Says:

    Kevin,
Try your c:\SwSetup folder. When you installed Quick play direct it should have extracted a file for Quick play for Windows 2.3 and put it in the SwSetup folder.

  22. Carlo Says:

i downloaded quickplay 2.3, created a partiion usinf martition magic and assigned to it the letter X and did not format it

i ran the setup and tried to set the location for the files to be in X: but it couldnt access it, so it continued and installed on C: thus the buttons are not working when i press them while the laptop is off, they just turn on the laptop and boot into windows!

what should i do? i have an HP DV 2132ea

    thank you

  23. Nathalia Says:

    Asif,

You seem really knowledgeable about QuickPlay issues. I have lost my QPW (version was 2.3, I believe). I still have the boot Quickplay working fine. The Application Recovery CD that came with my HP dv1040 seems to have nothing to do with QuickPlay for Windows — it only helps reinstall the boot version.

Nowhere on any of my disks is there any QuickPlay for Windows reinstall, that I can find.

Can you offer me any advice, help, or files to get my QPW back? I uninstalled it a while ago, and am realising that was a huge mistake.

    Any help appreciated,

    Nathalia

  24. Nathalia Says:

    (continued from above comment)
Oh, and my swsetup folder doesn’t have a quickplay folder in it, at all. In fact I searched the entire computer for “QuickPlay” and it came up empty. Thank you.

  25. Asif Says:

    Carlo,
Which file did you extract and run the set up from? hpqpdp.zip, or Quickplay 2.3 for windows? If you used hpqpdp, it would automatically install to partition X:. Also, what OS are you running? Keep in mind that HP has a different flash for the same laptop if it runs visa/and or xp. You need to have the bios flashed with the correct OS flash or QP won’t work.

If you used hpqpdp, and you’re still getting nothing, check again to see that the X: partition is at the end of the hard drive. It MUST be at the end for Quick Play to work.

  26. Asif Says:

Nathalia, someone has posted a link for QPW 3.0 here: http://www.asifism.com/?p=51#comments. However, I believe 3.0 is not XP compatible. I’ve found a couple of file servers that may be good to upload files to. I’m going to try them out, and if I have any luck, will post the results here. If not, we can consider emailing QPW files, since they’re less than 100 MB.

And your folder could be title QPW under c:/SwSetup. But since your recovery CDs don’t have QPW on them, you will not have that folder. HP is a little screwed up like that; they never provide everything you’ll need. It’s good business that’s bad for the customer.

  27. Asif Says:

Here’s the new link to download all 3: QPW 3.0, QPW 2.3, and HPQPDP. Files become available for download as they are uploading, and they should all be there in 10 hours or so, unless electricity goes all Pakistan on me.
    Here you go:

    http://asifism.badongo.com/

  28. Carlo Says:

i extracted QuickPlay 2.3 for windows, i have XP installed. And my partition is at the end according to Partition magic….

Someone told me to Create a D7 partition which i didnt know how to do it, nor partition magic has this option.

    any help?

    thx Asif

  29. Asif Says:

Ok, your first problem. Quickplay 2.3 for Windows is not what you need for Quickplay to work when your PC is shut. You need the Quickplay Direct, which is HPQPDP.zip, which if you didn’t download, you can download from asifism.badongo.com when it’s available there (soon, if the city of Karachi can sustain electricity for long enough!). I believe d7 is the name given to the linux partition hp pavillion laptops come with using which older versions of QP would boot. The X: partition accomplishes something along those lines, although it’s not the same thing.

How about our BIOS flash? Is it flashed with the XP version or the Vista?

  30. Carlo Says:

    ok thanks,

the bios is flashed with the XP version

  31. Asif Says:

Folks, here’s how to download Quick Play:

    http://www.asifism.com/?p=55.

  32. Martin Says:

    hi
i’m running Vista Ultimate 32bit on HP dv9316 ea
installed QP 3 from downloaded folder (not C:\swsetup)
i have 9 GB unallocated partition but dont know where it installed
when i click QP icon from desktop it all works fine
but when i hit Q button on the keyboard or remote control Vista boots!

how can i have QP function without booting the windows?
so where did i do wrong, sir?

    another question:
is there anywhere i could download the HP Recover CD/DVD for my dv9316?

    thank you very much

    Martin
    Germany

  33. Asif Says:

    Martin,
QP 3.0 is Windows only. This means that if you’ve installed 3.0, you will be unable to use QP Direct. If you use Quick Play Direct 2.3, you can boot into Quick Play, but you will see the windows logo most likely before you boot into it. Now, to use the Direct, you’ll need to use the HPQPDP.zip file available in the downloads section on this site. Visit the main page for more information on how to download it. Follow the instructions here and you should be good to go. Also, you will need a 1 GB unallocated partition, not 9 GB. Follow the instructions, and keep in mind the partition as to be at the END of the Hard Drive. If you’re going to get QP Direct, Arrta says here at the bottom what he did to get QP Direct to work. http://www.asifism.com/?p=57#comments.

Now, for the recovery discs, only way to get them is to order them via HP. I have recovery discs for the dv2120us, but you need to find someone with a dv9316 who has heart enough to upload 9 GB.

  34. Jeremy Says:

    Asif,
I am not very computer savy, but i really want to be able to use Quickplay with my hp5139us. Vista is not the original OS on this computer. I upgraded from Windows XP Media Center to Windows Vista Home Premium. Will the instructions at the top of this page work for me? And if they do, im not quite sure what you mean by “Hie Thee”. Sorry.lol

  35. Jeremy Says:

Also, am i going to have flash the bios, and is that going to cause conflicts with running vista.

  36. Asif Says:

    Jeremy,

First things first: Is hp5139 a dv model? The thing is, quick play direct is meant for all DV machines, and HP claims it’s not going to run on vista, but as you can see from the comments of several other people, it does work on vista. Now, you may not be able to make Quick play Direct work on your machine, but I see no reason why Quickplay for Windows won’t work.

If you have Xp, just download quick play for windows 2.3 and you can install that like any other software. If you have Vista, you can try 3.0. And yes, if hp.com shows a separate BIOS flash for vista for your machine, you need that flash too. Unless your computer has a QP button on it and a DVD button on it, I wouldn’t try installing Quickplay direct following the steps listed here.

  37. Jeremy Says:

Sorry i forgot to mention that it is a dv lap top. And it does have those buttons. Since I have vista does that mean im going to not be able to use the Quickplay Direct? I already installed vista on my lap top. So I don’t have Xp on here anymore. Is there still a way for me to get quickplay direct?

  38. Asif Says:

Yeah you should just follow the steps. Use the download keys on the main page to download QP.

  39. Jeremy Says:

Ok, and it looks like i should use 2.3 instead of 3 for the direct play to work right?

  40. Asif Says:

Direct Play is only version 2.3, which is hpqpdp.zip. For Quick Play for Windows, either version will work with vista.

  41. Jeremy Says:

    Asif,
I’m sorry but there is nowhere for me to get direct play. Do you think you could post another place to download it from. I think all the other places timed out or something.

  42. Asif Says:

    Jeremy,

    Go to http://www.asifism.com/dowloader.

Enter this key: c49980a086bddccf5b714eaf92c879a9. Press Enter.

You can either download all the HPQPDP parts and HPQPDP.zip or just get HPQPDP_FULL.zip. That’s the file you need.

  43. Jeremy Says:

    Asif,
I keep trying to extract the files from the zip folder but I keep getting this message that says “the same volume cannot be used as the source and destination”.

  44. Asif Says:

You’re not supposed to extract the files from the zip folder. You’re supposed to extract the whole zipped file and then just run setup.exe. Do not try to extract the datab.can files.

  45. Jeremy Says:

Asif, the link to that download page you had before is expired and so is that key you gave me. Neither of them worked. Could you give me the new things and tell what i have to download exactly on that page. When i downloaded the HPQPDP_Full, i tried to open it and it was completely empty. Am I able to follow all these instructions at the top of this page using Vista?

  46. Sean Says:

Hello, I have a custom ordered HP laptop originally packed with VISTA junk! I’ve been trying to “upgrade” to WindowsXP Pro SP2 but failed on QuickPlay. I’ve got both QPDP and QPW. I can’t get QPDP to install correctly after the first reboot because of a driver problem. QPDP doesn’t include the Microsoft UAA Bus driver that’s necessary to load the audio driver. I get Driver not found for MEDIA error on reboot and QPDP hangs at 95% before restarting into windows. When I press the media touchbutton, only windows will load.

I’ve installed QPW in windows XP pro but had to manually set the media key to load quicklay. Isn’t it supposed to assign it automatically?

Something’s fishy and I do’nt nkow what, please help!

    Thanks

  47. Asif Says:

OK, Sean. So you have a custom laptop. Do you know if your Motherboard or Bus is different from the one that comes with the pre-packaged dv2000 series? If, in fact it is, then there’s only one way to solve your problem: YOU need to get the drivers for that bus. which is the exact laptop you customized?

You’ll have to manually download your bus drivers from the hp.com drivers and support section for the laptop you further customized. Then you extract all the data.cab files and look for the bus device drivers that are in those files, and you replace them with the drivers for your MB. I’ll open up the data files to see what I can do, but I’ll need a couple of days. This probably won’t happen until Sunday, so you’ve got to bare with me. Get me the base laptop model, I’ll see what I can do.

Also, keep in mind that with XP Pro the DVD button will boot into QP Direct and the QP button starts windows to start QPW. Also, make sure you have the latest Quck launch buttons driver. For the dv2120us, this driver is not available on the web site, but only through HP Update.

And dude, you gotta stick to posting comments to one article; this jumping around is painful.

    Asif,
Thank you so much. I finally got it to work and I owe it all to you. The only problem I’m having now is I don’t know how to get music into quickplay to use when using Direct Play. Please, if you have any suggestions, let me know.

  49. Asif Says:

    Jeremy,

You’re welcome. There’s got to be a simple way to browse into your music directory or folder. I haven’t tried playing my music with QPD, just movies. But I’ll check it out tonight and get back to ya.

    Asif.

  50. Asif Says:

    Jeremy,

You’ll have to put your music in the shared music folder in windows XP. If you have any music or videos over there there, you can see it all in Quick Play Direct.

  51. Jeremy Says:

Ok, but i don’t have xp anymore. All i have on this computer is Vista.

  52. Asif Says:

Okay. Then you use the shared music folder in Vista.

  53. Kevin Says:

Hi, I am having trouble installing QuickPlay Direct 2.3 on my Windows Vista machine. I created the unallocated space just as described but the installation gets 15% and the comes up with this error:
    ComponentMoveData had the following error:

    Component: QuickPlay Component
    File Group:
    File:
    Error Number: -2147418113

I thought it might be because QuickPlay 3.0 was installed, but I uninstalled it and get the same error.

Any ideas as to why I might be getting this? Thanks!

Hi. I have a Toshiba EX2515LDSTW, which originally came with Japanese XPHome and has a multimedia player keyboard/remote. It had a QuickPlay 2.0 preinstalled when I got it(still have the original quickplay recovery disk, but it doesn’t work). Late in December, My HDD failed, so I replaced it myself and installed XP Home -English. Everything works fine, BUT the multimedia panel. I’m hoping the QuickPlay Direct will work on my pc. I haven’t been able to find ANY help or info online anywhere. My old HDD was unrecoverable, even using the preinstalled HD recovery from Toshiba. Any guidance you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, I need help
I have an HP DV2120CA laptop that recently decided not to boot up into windows.
It would turn on, flash the HP logo and the screen will stay blank,
I tried to reinstall windows on it but a lot of the drivers were missing,
I tried to download the drivers off of the HP website but a lot of them failed to install.

Is there any way I can either download or get a copy of the recovery cds without going through HP?
    I desperately need your help!

    Thank you in advanced

  58. Asif Says:

    Tom,

Well, here’s some news for you: the recovery CDs i had for the dv2120us did not work, so I tossed them. However, the drivers from the HP site did work for the 2120CA; I can only suggest trying those again. My sympathies that you are stuck with a 2120. It was my most horrid experience with a laptop. You will have to go through HP, my friend.

  60. Asif Says:

There’s no patch. Which two files do you have when you extract the download? There should be only one executable.

Hey all, I was wondering if someone can help with this issue, I’ve installed Quickplay on my HP DV6000 but when i press the quickplay button only DVD Play opens, i can’t get to the quickplay menu no matter what i do. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling still no success.
    Thanks in advance

  64. Asif Says:

What version of Quickplay have you installed?

  65. erwin on Says:

I believe its 3.7 the latest version

  66. kiara Says:

i want to know how and where can i get the disk to reinstall my quickplay

  67. Giacomo Says:

Hi Asif! Thanks a lot…I Have followed the instruction of Richard’s post, I have fixed the register key and the Setup Program has installed the QuickPlay Correctly!!! But I have found some problems:
    1) The Quick Play button and DVD button doesn’t work (All the others yes)…If I press it I can’t reveal not even the exadecimal code with program like AutoHotKey in keyHistory
    2) If I try to play music on whichever format (mp3,wma,wav) QuickPlay start but I see only a black screen and the loading hourglass (I have to do Ctrl-Alt-Canc to shut down the unresponding application)

    Why???
My machine is a HP dv6755el and I downgrade from vista to Xp (S.P. 2 and all works correctly). I tried to install QPW 2.3…Maybe I have to try with 3.0?? Maybe I have to try with QPD or HPQPDP???

    Thanks a lot
    Regards

  68. Giacomo Says:

sorry Asifim…I remove the HP Quick Play and reinstall again…and now all works properly…Only one little problem:

I cant start the application by the quick launch button (Quick play button and DVD button) but only by clicking on the desktop icon.

N.B. These two fucking button seems to works because if the laptop is shut down, I can turn on it by clicking one of these two button…(But they can’t bring me on media center mode….they simply turn on the machine)

Thanks again…and sorry for my english

thank you so much Asif… currently downloading.. is the .zo extension the same with .rar or .zip?

  76. Asif Says:

    Hey jake,

zo is basically compressed version of ZIP / RAR. You need to download all the files, and then open the one with the rar / zip extension using the version of winrar available on asifism.com. You will have problems decompressing withother versions.

  77. jake Says:

thanks for that prompt reply, Asif.. may i have the link for the asifism.com winrar version? i have my own winrar but like you said i might have problems decompressing if i’ll use other versions

  85. Asif Says:

    Zubair,

How old is this laptop if it came installed with dos only? Did the laptop come with any installation or recovery discs? I can’t find the specs for it, so I’m not even sure that QuickPlay Direct will run on it. Regarding the Quickplay file, I’m going to have to upload md5 hashes so you can check to see if you have a complete download. Tonight.

My machine when purchased had VISTA Home Premium installed. I removed it and totally formatted the HDD - after doing some research and digging to get all drivers and updates. The BIOS was dropped from F.2A to F.28 to deal with the 1394 (firewire) issues.

The OS installed is an HP version of XP Media Center Edition - and uped to MCE 2005 SP2.

The HDD was partitioned as needed from this forum to do the install. 1028 MB reserved and not formatted at the end of the drive. The remainder of the drive formatted as NTFS and the OS installed.

I got the system up and running and all updates (except SP3 for XP) installed. I then created the HPQPD CD created, and it installed fine. The first time it installed, it trashed my MBR as there was no RECOVERY partition on the machine any longer.

There is a patch on HP’s site to fix this, and it was applied. The REG Patch was installed to get the HPQPD to install and it installed, formatted the X: drive and copied a buch of stuff to the HDD…yet did not install the HP QuickPlay software. When you pressed the QP button on the machine, it did nothing.

I did some digging on the HDD, and found an .INI file that indicated what was to be launched when you pressed the button. I went to the X: drive and noticed that there was a HPQP directory there…and I ran the SETUP and it did create the C:\Program Files\QP directory and then the QP button started working.

The problem I am having now is that if the machine is OFF, and you press the QP button, or the DVD button…it does not run the HPQP Direct version I thought I installed from the HPQPD 2.3 CD I created….it boots the machine normally and loads XP that is installed on the C: drive.

Pressing the DVD button does not just make the machine play a DVD - it boots XP, and you have to LOGIN then press the DVD button again to get the DVD to play.

All the buttons appear to be working as designed once the OS is loaded, but I want to get it working as the HPQPD is supposed to work by not loading the entire OS and then go through the steps to play a DVD indicated above.

Can anyone assist? If anyone needs assistance on how I got to the point I am at - let me know…I will assist with that.

    Thank You

So you just have C: and X:? No other Drives, correct?

    [/QUOTE]

    ASIF,

Correct. I completely erased the HDD on my DV6807US machine. I then installed XP MCE2005 (HP’s version) that I got off the Internet (did not make me use a PRODUCT KEY or ACTIVATE). Once installed, I had left a 1023MB partition at the end of the drive to do the X: drive as per the instructions found on the Internet.

Once the X: drive was created and I had all the HARDWARE in my machine working (no UNKNOWN DEVICES in Device Manager), I put the HPQPD CD I created into my drive and it ran the AUTORUN.INF file, and it first gave me the error about invalid machine. I used your REGISTRY PATCH information and it then went through the install (or partially I think). It created the partition (NTFS) where the X: drive was, but it is not hidden or anything. Since there was no RECOVERY PARTITION on my machine, I had to use the patch from HP’s site about re-installing QuickPlay on a machine where there is no RECOVERY PARTITION.

I then used the QP kep on my machine and it did nothing at all while the OS was running. I looked at the INI file for the QuickLaunch Keys and noticed that it was pointing a specific location on the HDD on the C: drive for the QP software. I looked at that location and found that it was not there (not installed). I then looked at the X: drive, and it was not there either. There was, however, an install program for the HPQP and I ran it. It installed on the C: drive and then the QP kep on the QuickLaunch bar worked.

I turned off the machine and pressed the QP key on the keyboard, and it booted the machine but it went through the entire boot process of loading XP off the C: drive. Even though I have have an X: drive and there appears to be a partial XP load there (or something of the sort), it does not use it.

Has anyone ever found a copy of the complete HPQPD CD as it came from HP? Apparently that CD is a bootable CD which should install the software. I have not been able to find one.

I also note that there are files on the CD I created called PLATFORM.INI and DRIVER.INI, and it appears that they have listings for the various machines by HP. The last machine in each file is 30BD. I the PLATFORM.INI file the last line is: 30BD=”Gemini” and in the DRIVER.INI file the last line is: 30BD=”00_ICH7,25_nVidia_7600,24_ConexantHDAudio,19_CardReader”

I am thinking that I might need to modify these files to match the information for my machine 30CF, yet I am not able to find the information for my machine. Does anyone know what it is?

If we all work together, we can overcome the HP WARLORDS and get this all working.

  91. Asif Says:

Okay, I’m not sure the patch from HPs website about installing QP on a machine will work at all. To the best of my knowledge, hp have refused to support quickplay direct because it is an unstable piece of software.

What you install is QuickPlay for Windows, no QP direct, which is why you log into windows and then QP comes on. HP recovery discs (if and when they occasionally work)do not install quickplay direct. Never have. I was told there is no way to get back QP direct except for doing a recovery from the recovery partition. The CDs will not reinstall QP Direct on PCs that came with it.

If you have C and X, and you install the version of QP Direct available here with the registry patch only, provided that the hardware is supported by these files, it should work.

Now the problem with newer laptops is that these installation files may not support all the drivers. What needs to be done is that the drivers be added to the CAB packages and the ini etc. file be updated accordingly. It’s not rocket science, but decompiling the entire package would require an installshield license. That costs about USD 1,500.

I’ve researched it before and it is possible, but I just can’t see myself spending USD 1,500 and many, many hours updating this.

    Suggestions?

    Hi,

Is anyone running into the problem of not having audio while using HP Quickplay Direct? I have version 2.0 installed in an HP Laptop, model DV5178US, everything works great except I do not get any audio in DVD playback as well as in music playback. I have reinstalled windows, and now I am getting this issue, previously I did not have it. I have windows xp, which is also the original op. system the laptop came with. As for quickplay in windows, no problem whatsoever, only no audio in quickplay direct. Any help would be appreciated. Thnx.

  93. Curtis Says:

    Asif,

Thank you. I am going to keep trying. My goal is to find a way to get VISTA completely off my machine (it SUX so bad that even a black hole would be scared to come near it). I have three things that I want to do with my laptop, and HP is not helpful at all.

I wonder if anyone has successfully been able to get around the RECOVERY DISCS telling you that the machine you are installing on is not supported. I have DV2000 recovery DVDs from a friend of mine, and his machine came exactly the way I want my machine to be. When I boot with the DVD, it tells me that I am trying to install on an unsupported machine. I MEAN, come on!!! It is a HP, but there must be something someplace which is reading something in the BIOS that tells it to only install on certain machines. I just have to figure out what that is…and add my machine to it.

I am also trying to get either MAC OSX86 or UBUNTU to install on the machine…neither will install as they do not see the HDD or half of the other devices on the machine.

HP has to be the worst as far as support…they sell you a machine which will only run ONE OS. I have tried the WINDOWS 7 BETA on my machine, and it does install - and both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions have an UNKNOWN DEVICE that you cannot get rid of. No matter the BIOS version on the system.

If anyone has HPDPD Recovery CD/DVD that is willing to post an .ISO someplace…let me know. According to HP the TRUE HPQPD CD is bootable.

Hi. I had a problem with quick play 2.3 installation on my dv1000. Every time when I fired up the installation file it ended up with a message quickplaycan only be installed on quickplay enabled machine. It seems to be a common problem with dv1000 and most likely with v6000 etc.
    To solve that problem :

    1 - Click start-> run and type “regedit” (without the quotes);

    2 - Go to :
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\QPFlag:

3 - create the values as below:
New->Value Dword->QPFlag (double-click on that record and change its value to 3)
New->String value->“@ (double-click on that record and change to” “)

Sorted my problems out. If that will not help try to insert that whole key under group programs or with QFlag values instead of QPFlag.

    Hi for the 3′rd time,

I have seen earlier posts relating the no-audio issue, however no-one has posted a solution. I have quickplay direct 2.0 and haven’t been able to solve the audio problem until now. I have installed the microsoft and the conexant hd audio driver. Everything works fine in quickplay for windows but no audio in quickplay direct. I am wondering if downloading and installing quickplay direct 2.3 would solve this problem. My guess is that quickplay direct 2.0 I have doesn’t contain the audio drivers for the conexant audio device. Any opinon anyone??

  99. Commie B Says:

    Hi Tani,

I do apologize for not responding before. It’s been a little hectic. Too many comments and not enough time.

There could be a couple of reasons why your audio is not working. You may have to dig into the .cab files of the quickplay direct 2.0 that you have to see if your conexant audio device is supported. The driver you installed will have no effect on your quickplay 2.0 direct installation since that runs on a separate partition altogether.

You specified a dv5000 series laptop. What year did you purchase the laptop in? Do you have any idea when the product was assembled. Did it come with any version of QuickPlay? If so, which one? This will help and I can potentially tell you whether attempting to install 2.3 will solve your problem or not.

I did the partitions (c and x) and I modified the registry, and I tried to update the bios version… and I still having the message “QuickPlay can only be installed in QuickPlay enabled machine”.

I’m a little desperate. Please help.

  101. Tani Says:

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply and for offering some help, I have purchased my HP laptop I believe in April-May 2006, I reinstalled my laptop and as has been brought up by others, I erased the partition containing QuickPlay Direct. I am not completely sure, but I believe it had version 2.0, of course I do not vouch that it might not have been version 2.3. Anyway, I have twice tried to install version 2.3 of DirectPlay, which has in both cases messed up my system giving me a blue screen and not even allowing me to enter safe mode, therefore I was foced to re-install windows twice. I do not get why this happens, but I have downloaded Quickplay Direct from 2 different sources, but not from this site though because of the availability of keys (size of download was over 700 mb). I haven’t checked this site for a couple of weeks for any solution, since I lost hope someone would reply, but thanx again and any further help will be greatly appreciated.

  102. Commie B Says:

    Tani,
With 2.3 I’m guessing the driver is the problem. You can try installing QP 1.0 and that runs on a Linux Partition. You may have luck with the right driver there.

Try the download from this site, if it’s different from the others, it may have the drivers you’re looking for.

    Good Day!

I’m Eugene from the Philippines, i just bought a secondhand HP DV2000-2180eu from e-bay, the unit had been reformatted, the unit was originally installed with XP but changed to Windows Vista Business. The unit had no recovery cd. My problem is with the Quickplay, when i touch it it booted directly to vista. Can you help me on this? Thanks.

  111. Commie B Says:

You probably don’t have QuickPlay Direct installed on your machine. if you do, you’ll need to update your QuickLaunch button drivers, which are available for download from the hp website.

Please note before installing QuickPlay Direct that you should only have c and x and no other partitions.

    Hi,

I’ve just installed Windows 7 on my HP m9365, and can’t get quickplay to install (the usal authorised machine error msg).
I’ve tried the reg fix (at least I think I have) so does anyone have any other ideas?
I’ve put a screenshot of my reg alterations here-

Any clues on how to get QP to work on Windows 7?
I’ve tried the reg change but no such luck!
I’m just looking for the Windows application (with Media Center).

  115. Commie B Says:

Sorry James, I’m afraid I don’t have the answer to the Windows 7 issue. it’s got to be a tweak of the resgitry fix to get QP to work on Windows 7 too…but I wouldn’t know what to suggest unless I had a running installation of windows 7.

  116. James Preston Says:

Hi Commie thought that might be the case, Windows 7 truely is differnt from the rest.

A few years ago I attempted to get QPD working, along with QPW and gave up. I have hope presently, once the download keys update.

  119. Chuck Says:

i see qpw as a compliance enforcer for hp since it keeps in contant contact with the Bios to ensure slingbox is installed and you are using a hp branded OS. see i get a hardware error message when i uninstalled sling box the laptop has no tv tuner nor does slingbox require one!. when you rid your laptop of the dvd software trial ware my dvd no longer funtions right either outright quits or becomes erratic. see qpw checks to make sure it is installed on the hardrive if not well enough said.

The question of whether or not we ought to do research on something can be an ethical question. ,

O went online to HP and with my slow connection downloaded the updated version and when it started to install an error came up stating this could only be installed on a HP system. What the hell, I have an HP Laptop. 2} My wireless asst is inop. again I uninstalled and went to HP website and downloaded the updated version and during installation something happened and a fatal erro occured. Now I cannot remove or install the wireless asst. Please help me with these 2 problems
