I just purchased an HP DV9812US with Vista and install XP Pro everything works perfectly except that I can get QPW 2.3 to install I get an error dialog window titled Servere with this message; This software can only be install in authorized machine” This laptop has the QuickPlay buttons so what gives?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Authorized machine? Are you using an administrator account to install? Have you installed AIM by any chance?
April 25th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Found the answer.
I placed this key into the registry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\QPFlag]
“QPFlag”=dword:00000003
Works great. I did notice that unlike in Vista this version of QuickPlay does not support the built-in Webcam even though is is setup and working in XP.

I believe the webcam is QPW 3.0 and above.

What notebook are you using Axman?
May 7th, 2008 at 8:50 am
HP dv9000 series…..dv9010ca to be exact.
May 8th, 2008 at 6:30 am
it actually says “disk allocation failure, check your system and try again” everytime im installing your QP direct. All of your instructions are followed prior to that QP 2.3 installation. Please advise,…whew!
May 8th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
Axeman, are you using Windows XP or Vista? The disk failure error can be initiated, at least has been in the past because either the installation is being run by someone not an administrator or by partition X: is not at the end of the HDD.
May 8th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
Im using XP Media Center Edition service pack 2. I have four (4) partitions in my hard disk under NTFS system (namely C,D,E and F). I made partition X (under NTFS also) at drive C located at the end of drive C itself (right hand side when facing the computer screen). drive X is unallocated and unformatted as instructed. Im very sure I am under administrative rights in my laptop… So what else could be wrong?? help!

please comment on my last comments…..

Sorry Axeman, don’t know how I missed it.
Okay, a couple of things. You can’t have 4 drives. You can have only 2 fo QPD with most notebook models. C:, where you have all you data, and X:, where you’ll be installing quickplay.
Note that if you are trying with multiple paritions, X: must be the absolute last partition on your hard drive, but that doesn’t mean it will work with multiple partitions.
May 11th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
alright thanks. It was mentioned on your instructions that I could put it any partition of multiple drives, well anyway, i’l try placing ‘X’ on the very last partition of my HDD, in that case it would be the F drive. I’l try it tonight, Wish me luck!
May 11th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
Well, the instructions say “end of the drive,” not end of any of drive, implying your hard disk drive. Although I do see how it could be misread. I’ll rewrite instruction 4.
Mind you, there may still be problems because you have multiple drives. That’s entirely up to your luck, although you can try to amend the boot order and hope that it would work.
Best of luck, and keep me posted! Thanks.

Just finished tryng it man, doesnt work,….Guess I’ve got no choice but to reformat the whole HDD making it in a two partiton only, which will be the “C” and the myticulous “X” drive (located at the end of the drive). What you think? Please advise…..before i push the green button.
May 11th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
That is the only way it works on mine, my friend, so I’d say that’s right.
May 11th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
All right then…Im set to go. One more query, have you tried partioning your HDD (multiple drives) on your computer after you have re-installed Quickplay direct? If you do, is Quickplay Direct functioning well?
May 11th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
I have. QuickPlay Direct did not function once I added the partitions.

ok. Thanks so much.

Have you browsed tried using the windows registry tool to add the QP flag to the registry? Mind you, I’m not sure what hardware the dv5 has, it may not have the right drivers and that could cause you to get the BSoD. What chipset, graphic card and sound card does the model have?
