My laptop comes with two Hard Drives 320GB each so they are not partitions, they are hard drives and I disabled D: (2nd hard drive) from Device Manager. So initially I had C: D: and E:. Where C: is Primary Master Hard Disk, D: is Secondary Master Hard Disk and E: was Recovery Partition of 12GB that was deleted and merged back with C:. And I created X: by shrinking C: again to the exact size as mentioned in the guide and of course this laptop comes with QPD. So if the recovery disk wont give me QPD then I guess I should do the fresh vista installation and then try again. Would get back to you with results

I’m not sure what you mean by disabling D:. You see, to get QuickPlay Direct to work on both machines, you typically will have to rid yourself of the recovery partition. So you only have C and X.

Problem with recovery discs is they won’t get you QuickPlay Direct. Did the laptop originally come with QPD?

Nope… Even I tried with disabling my D: drive and D: is my 2nd HD. Nothings seems to work for me… Tried editing custom.ini… doesn’t work either. Maybe there is something else!!! Guess, have to go for Recovery DVD…

So, did you get it work?

Mind you, you will have a lot of issues booting up the machine with 2 partitions other than the X: It’s a hit or a miss, and nine out of ten times if you’ve got a C, D and an X, QPD will not boot up. With a C and X it should work just fine.

Happy New Year Asif and Everyone!!!

Yes X: is my last drive. I have two hard disks 320GB each i.e. C: and D: and I shrink C: drive to create X: so now I have C: D: and X:. Well I have put the values of QPFlag and @= manually and when exported them I got the dword entry in inverted commas just as mentioned above. I deleted the QPFlag from registry and use the registry file with inverted commas and it inserted the values correctly whereas the file without inverted commas only make the folder and does not insert the values of QPFlag and @= So I checked other registry files and found that all the values are in inverted commas just as in our case: “@=”=”” last two inverted commas has nothing in them so the value of @= is Empty. Just export the value from your QPFlag Folder, I guess you would find the value of dword in inverted commas, If not, then I would be wrong all together

X: is at the end of your hard disk, right? Have you tried removing the inverted comma around the dword entry?

Hi Asif,

I guess I have done exactly the same and this time Setup take some time before giving me the same authorize machine error. So just to confirm, I have exported the value of QPFlag folder from registry and it looks like:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\QPFlag]
“QPFlag”=”dword:00000003″
“@=”=”"

Only difference is inverted commas around dword:00000003. So I had shrink C: to make X: unformatted through Disk Management and installing from C:\swsetup\HPQPDP kindly correct me if I am wrong somewhere or its just not working for any weird reason. Well, being system analyst i never had thought that something seems to be so simple can drive my nuts hehehe

Hi Usman,

Go to Start, run, and type in regedit. Once the editor opens up, browse [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\QPFlag]. Create the QP flag folder if it doesn’t exist, and then use the settings below:

“QPFlag”=dword:00000003
“@=”=””

That should do the trick!

Hi,

I have also the same problem of authorized machine. My laptop is HP dv7 and vista 32 bit. Can you kindly tell me how to manually adjust the registry settings. The most hilarious thing about my situation is that my laptop is from Entertainment Series and I messed up the original QuickPlay…

I must say that with default vista install I used quickplay quite a bit… now that I’m back on xp… I went to the truoble to get quickplay working on it… this site makes that task possible.

But that’s where the good stuff stops… quickplay 2.3 vs 3 pales in comparison… I’ve uninstalled and it’s back to vlc/zoomplayer(new personal fav)
