Ok u meant the HPQPDP folder. I tried to recreate the problem u were having and now I can’t even rename the partition using rmdl.exe. I’m going to try format the partition to NTFS, then install HPQPDP on it, and then try and run rmdl.exe as explained here http://www.notebookforums.com/post2501281-3.html.
Ok, so you assign the drive the letter x:, but it shows up temporarily under my computer. It doesn’t show up as X: in the disk management console and when I turn the PC off or reboot, i’ve lost the X: assignment again, and therefore, I continue to boot back into Vista and then QP opens up.
I have a problem here.. when I try to install, I got this error: “Quickplay can only be installed in QuickPlay-enabled machine” Do you know someone anything about that?… I forgot to mention that I have an Hp Pavilion dv6339eu notebook. It came with Vista preinstalled.. I have QuickPlay 3 but just for windows. I understood that for Vista, QuickPlay Direct is not supported… yet, I hope. So, I have XP on another partition , and there is the problem with HPQPDP.. I will looking for feedback. Thanks in advance.
PS: Asif, there is another problem with your archive files. First, on HPQPDP.z06 I have CRC failed in data2.cab, and then the last volume seem to be HPQPDP.z20 because Winrar ask me about it, but is missing. Thanks.
finally i was able to download the HPQPDP, QP2.3 and QP3.0… now the problem…
I installed QP2.3 and now my laptop compaq V3000 can now play in windows flawlessly. But here is the problem
1. when i press quickplay button, it goes to Windows Media player. Any ideas why this is happening? but if you click start program and hit Quickplay then the software executes.
2. another problem. I have prepared 1.5gb UNALLOCATED DISK SPACE (To be sure) but everytimie i execute setup under the foler HPQPDP, it gives me the problem same as dan which is Quickplay can only be installed in a quickplay enabled machine”. Any ideas what went wrong?
actually i think the HPQPDP can only be installed if the UNALLOCATED PARTION WILL BE ASSIGNED first but i tried assining it as X drive but still the same problem
Btw, i am using Winxp Pro so i am just going to use the QP2.3 and HPQPDP hopefully……
I’m recreating the splits for HPQPDP. Let me see what is different. Now, as far as the error for not being a QP enabled machine, it’s apparently not something I’ve heard anyone else come across. Did you make the partitions as suggested, because it will be unable to install anything on a vista machine without the 1 GB partition.
It works on visa, I had it working (not anymore though). If you have both XP and vista installed on your machine and then you’re trying to run HPQPDP. Is this XP the one HPQPDP has instaled or are you trying to dual boot? Dual boot and HPQPDP = bad idea. Can you tell me how many partitions you have, what sizes, and what’s on each?
1. Your first problem is a Quick Launch button problem. You need to get the QLB Driver from hp.com.
2. Now, this quickplay enabled stuff. What I’ve been able to discover is that QP is essentially only guaranteed to work on dv machines. The reason is that when QP Direct installs it installs with certain drivers that are included in that installation; drivers which I believe are only for the hardware that all hp dv machines include. Did your laptop come with vista or XP? What BIOS flash are you using from the hp site to boot your machine?
Also, Dan, what about you, which BIOS flash are you running?
Thanks for your answers.
So, Asif, yes.. I have both OS (Vista and XP) on my hp, because I’m afraid to purge Vista partition, until my recovery cds/dvd will be on my hand (because I have another problem with Recovery manager software… when I try to burn an DVD with recovery partition, I’ve got an error like: “Unable to find recovery partition” or something like that.. I don’t remember. But that’s not so important for now) . Anyway, you’re right again. I don’t have the 1 GB partition yet. So, do you think to create first the 1 GB partition and then to check again HPQPDP setup ?
PS: I don’t know what BIOS I’m running now.. Today I’m working on late shift. I will tell you tonight, if is still essential for my error. And about the archived files, the same, I will write the result. Thanks again. Good luck everybody!
I have the same thing with the DVD button. The quickplay circle is the only one that triggers the boot into QP
However I have XP Pro installed and QP 2.3. No Vista.
Giving the machine to my girlfriend and don’t want to cause an issue by giving her Vista.
Yeah Vista is the problem here. Damn MS and HP both! And I’m a MS partner, bummer! I’m considering moving back to XP Media Center Edition. It just seems much easier.
Ok. I’m home right now. So, I have PhoenixBIOS version F.27 on my notebook. Now I’m downloading z06 and z20, and after that I will create a partition for QPD.
I finally got my hpqpdp to work! The trouble was that I had 2 partitions other than the QP one, which means I would need to edit the boot.ini file coz it was screwing up with the booting. Now I just have a c:, and the sucka works!
i was able to read in the thread and with the registry hack posted by amigadude and stimey. i was able to install the HPQPDP software but everytime i hit quickplay button it goes directly to windows and quickplay doesnt start.
GREAT! I’m tired.. Asif, something is wrong with archived files or to dataX.cab. I don’t know what’s wrong here…. I’ve tried to download two times the file .z06 but everytime I’ve got this error from winrar:
! C:\Users\admin\Documents\Downloads\Quickplay\HPQPDP.z06: CRC failed in data2.cab. The file is corrupt
! C:\Users\admin\Documents\Downloads\Quickplay\HPQPDP.z20: CRC failed in data4.cab. The file is corrupt
Please tell me if that is HPQPDP Quickplay direct version 2.3? Because I have another archive named HPQPDP_QuickplayDirectV2.3.rar, from another website and here data2.cab seem to be ok, but data3.cab have CRC failed. lol, so is strange again… But important is that I can take data2.cab from that archive, just if is the same version. And then I will try data4.cab. But that just tomorrow because I’m tired now. A good night/day for everybody.
ok well… looks like my torrent doesnt work.. Sorry guys..
Here is how my system works.. Asif, tell me if this is like yours.
Starting from power off.
Power button, starts Windows XP.
Quickplay button, starts HPQPDP.
DVD button, starts Windows XP.
I have 4 partitions.
C: (OS)
D: (Media)
Hidden1: (Ghost restore for C:)
Hidden2: (HPQPDP)
If you have Vista and Multiple Partitions, QPD won’t boot. If you have vista and one partition, on my machine, the QP button takes me to QP in Windows, and the DVD button launches Quick Play Direct.
I’m sorry you’re having so many problems. Yes, this is Quickplay Direct 2.3. You can try substituting the data files and see if you have luck with that. If not, try downloading HPQPDP_FULL.zip, that has worked for several people.
Here’s another question: can we ever shut down quick play direct on the Win Xp partition or will XP always go into hibernation when closing quick play direct?
technically hibernation means that when you want to get into QP Direct it will load faster.
If you want to shut it down without hibernation just hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Asif Thank You for all your effort!! I have run into a crc error with data4.cab. Could you tell me which zip files I would need to retry. I tried to download full.zip but it fails and my download manager (bitcomet) won’t work. I’m sorry for wasting your bandwidth. TIA
No problem, John. Try using getright as a download manager. Bitcomet is a torrent client, I believe. Data 4 should be somewhere between z15 and z20. I think I’ll just upload all the data.cab files too. That way after extracting you can just replace those if needed, if the download doesn’t time out.
Bad luck…… my other archive had “Unexpected end of archive”, and the last file in archive is data3.cab (no data4.cab or other files..). I just got data2.cab but is not enough I still need data4.cab … UNBELIEVEBLE, but true….
I downgraded an HPdv6275us from Vista to XP Pro. I installed Quickplay 3.0 and Quickplay Direct 2.1 per Asif’s instructions. I only have the main windows partition and the 1028 MB partition for Quickplay Direct. By the way, I left the 1028 MB partition unallocated. HPQPDP
converted the partition to NTSF and assigned it X: I couldn’t find a download for Quickplay Direct 2.3. I tried Asif’s download of HPQPDP but the download terminated short of 100 mb twice; so I gave up. I found a torrent for 2.1 which downloaded but took about two days to download.
QuickPlay 3.0 works fine within Windows. Quickplay Direct boots up OK and I can navigate the screens but can’t get any audio. DVDs play video but no sound. Same with Music CDs. I tried the Sound Setup within Quickplay Direct but the sound options were blank; so I guess the audio driver is incorrect. Also, the Quick Launch Volum buttons don’t work right. On decreasing volume it goes immediately to 0 and on increasing it goes to 10. Nothing in between.
Any ideas how I can fix the sound problem, find and load the correct audio driver? Any possibility 2.3 will work better?
George, does QPW 3.0 work fine with Windows XP? That’s definitely notable and worth mentoning on the front page, because that’s something that hasn’t worked for anyone before. I personally have not tried it.
I’ve uploaded a new 21 part HPQPDP download. Here’s the instructions: http://www.asifism.com.
As for the sound card problem. I’m busy with some deliverables these next couple of days, but I will look into it after that. You see, the sound card drivers are stored in one of the data.cab files, and what we need to do is ADD the drivers for your sound card to the apporpriate file, and then make an entry in the autorun file so the driver installation executes when the PC boos from X: during the QP Direct Play Installation.
The Quick launch problem that you hare having, is that in Direct Play or QPW? And if you can see in Direct Play the Volume toggle between 0 and 10, it’s highly likely that QPD QLDB audio buttons don’t know how to react in the event that a sound card is not detected. Try with QPD 2.3, and if that doesn’t work, the next step will be tweaking around with the data.cab files.
Sorry, I screwed up. I meant to say Quickplay 2.3. Thanks for the offer to help.
I have Quickplay 3.0 from Vista SWSetup that came on the laptop. I also have the HP digital TV card that came with the laptop but HP doesn’t list any drivers for it other than Vista. That will be my next project once I get Quickplay Direct working. I was debating loading XP Media Center but don’t know if it qualifies for the Terminal Server license under Windows Server 2000. I use Terminal Server to connect to the office.
I liked the Vista interface but it runs much slower than XP. Also, couldn’t get some software that I use often to work in Vista.
I don’t see anyway to uninstall Quickplay Direct 2.1 since the files in the 1028mb partition are not viewable in Windows XP. Should I try to install Direct 2.3 over the top of 2.1 or should I delete and then reinstall the 1028mb partition?
I have completed downloading the Zip files and combining them into a directory. I couldn’t burn them to a CD since the files are 706 MB which is too large for a 700 MB CD.
Has anyone been able to get Quickplay Direct to boot with more than one partition plus the 1028 mb Direct partition with Windows XP? I loaded Windows XP on a primary partition and Quickplay Direct on the 1028 mb primary partition. Quickplay Direct booted from the quick launch buttons and worked fine . I then used Partition Magic to split the Windows Primary partition into two partitions, a Primary for Windows and an Extended (Logical) Partition for data. After that. Quickplay Direct failed to boot indicating that it couldn’t find the boot.ini and some dll files.
Perhaps there is a way to change the boot.ini to accommodate more than one windows partition.
Asif, Quickplay Direct 2.3 fixed the audio problem that I was having with version 2.1.
George, it’s excellent that the audio problem is fixed.
As for more than 1+ partitions and a quickplay partition, I had the same problem. I got rid of my second partition for QPD to work. I’ve done hours of research on this, and for some folks it works, while for others it doesn’t work.
I didn’t invest any time into editing boot.ini. If you’re going to do that, be prepared to loose everything a couple of times before you get it right. The trick, I believe, does lie in editing boot.ini. I’ll see if I can find something in this regard.
I can’t find hpqpdp 2.3 anywhere where I can get a download. Closest thing I got was a .rar from this strange site without cab2 or 3. Any help would be appreciated.
i have download the quick play 3.2 but it not instaled on my compaq sr1732il desktop. if any one knows how to instal on a compaq machine kindly guide me or send me a mail
Folks, if you've gotten any help from this web site regarding quickplay or downloading it, please donate to help maintain costs and upgrade to a higher bandwidth limit.

to make your x: visible, run
rmdl.exe x:\ \device\harddisk0\partition2\
from the HPQPDP drive

Sam, very interesting. While I hibernate, the DVD buttons resumes Vista and boots QP 2.3 in vista, when I have QPW 3.0 installed. That’s messed up.

Arrta, I think that’s how it’s working with you because you’re using XP. With Vista, if I had two partitions other than the HP one, QPD wouldn’t boot.
Now,
With the QP button, i boot into vista and it launches QPW.
With the DVD button, it goes to QP Direct with an XP splash screen.
Power button just takes me to Vista.
I just have a C: and the QP Partition.

I suggest using the information here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289022.
Add something like:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS=”Windows XP for QP Direct” /fastdetect
to your boot.ini.
This is given that you have a total of 3 partitions, the QPD being the last one.

I can’t find hpqpdp 2.3 anywhere where I can get a download. Closest thing I got was a .rar from this strange site without cab2 or 3. Any help would be appreciated.

What happens when you double click on on the file?
