Hi,
HP Pavilion dv6376ea
I have just bought my new HP laptop (that I’ve always dreamt of) and I have some problems with it
I can’t use Quick Play / DVD Play buttons (I downloaded your applications but they are not working - files are broken)
I also have problem with my printer and what is so funny it is made by the same producent - Hp - why it is incompatible ?? HP LaserJet 1018
I cannot operate my inbuilt WebCam (it is working only in Skype / Tlen)
I Hope that maybe you’ll find time and would like to help me - I’ll be deighted.
Best wishes
Andrzej (Poland)
PS. I have Ms Vista Home Premium PL

Hi Andrzej,
Sorry to hear you’re having problems. First of all, which HPDPDP files are you having a problem with. All the files are tested and complete. Try to download them again or open them using a different version of winzip or winrar. What are they doing that makes you say they’re broken?
The 1018 cannot be incompatible with your notebook. What incompatibility issues are you having? Have you downloaded the latest driver for it?
And what problems are you having with the camera? If it’s working with skype and Tlen, what is it not working with? Do you get any errors trying to run it? Do you have any errors under the device manager?

Hi there, first of all thanks for publishing the quickplay files. I got a doubt. I formatted my notebook and put a newer win XP version i got on the web. I lost everything including the quickplay. got everything back but the only thing that still miss is the quickplay. I downloaded from your site but i don’t know how to proceed to install the quickplay. I read something about creating a partition for the quickplay alone eith 300mb of space. I saw that your files that comes in RAR have 2 .CAB files inside.. how to make them work? Please help me.

Thanks for all your work, Asif. May I ask if QP 3.0 (full) is to function with WinXP? I downloaded your zip, but running setup shows termination … “intended for Vista”
August 20th, 2007 at 7:57 pm
Leopessanha, follow the instructions on http://www.asifism.com/?p=43. If you still have questions, feel free to post them here.
August 20th, 2007 at 7:58 pm
Prech, no, QuickPlay for Windows 3.0 is not intended for, or functional with, Windows XP. It only works on Vista.

I just bought a “wonderful” HP DV6500 which came with Windows Vista. Needless to say, Quickplay doesn’t work. Will your Quickplay instructions work on a computer that came with Vista? Do you have to reformat the HD to get rid of the recovery partition (I bought the Recovery CDs) and then create a new partition for Quickplay along with a separate one for Vista? I have an older DV6500 and Quickplay was on a separate partition. I have been on the phone with HP for hours and they tell me that Quickplay is incompatible with Vista for security reasons. I think they’re idiots.

Hey Matt,
Yes, the instructions for QPD work on Vista. You can try your luck by having two partition plus the one for QuickPlay, but I’ve had too many problems with that to waste time with it anymore. You will, most likely, have delete the recovery partition and make do with a C: and an X:.
HP is pretty lame when it comes to supporting QuickPlay, and in some cases, supporting some of the dv model notebooks. Without a doubt, HP customer service comprises mostly idiots, and for months they’ve been telling me the instructions on my site or notebook forums will not work, and yet, every day someone gets QuickPlay to work using this site. Shows you how much qualified staff hp hires.

Thanks for the quick response. I’ll try it this weekend after I finish yelling at HP.
August 21st, 2007 at 8:52 am
Asif,
Thanks for the help. Vista actually allows you to manipulate the partitions without reformatting. I’m going to try installing with three partitions (Regular, Recovery, and QuickPlay). I know I need QuickPlay 3.0 (I think the Access key is expired) and HPQPDP.zip. However, do I need to download all 20-some zip files in the directory?
Thanks again for all the help. If this works, I’ll send you a write-up for fixing HP’s dysfunctional out-of-the-box laptop.

Matt,
The QuickPlay for Windows key is both for QPW 2.3 and 3.0. The HPQPDP files key contains 21 files. You download all of them, put them in the same folder, and run HPQPDP.zip. The HPQPDP files contain QuickPlay Direct 2.3. I’ll check all the keys and will post new ones if they’re expired.
Yes, you can manipulate partitions in vista without reformatting. Here is the problem most people face: with 3 partitions, the notebook or bios someone how can’t figure out how to boot into the QP Partition. If you have only 2 partitions, that’s not a problem. With 3 partitions, irrespective of whether it’s a recovery partition or another, there are problems booting into QP Direct, and in some cases, even booting into vista. You can try editing boot.ini or using the other tools in the HPQPDP setup files, but it just depends on your notebook. Some people with dv2000s, for instance, have had luck with even 5 partitions. Others, no luck with 3. But some dv2000 models shipped with defective hardware, so that could play a part there.
Sure, I’ll put yout write-up on here. Ultimately, HP has serious problems. I still haven’t received my laptop from them. I’m hoping it comes today or I may really be suing.
Good luck!

Asif,
I am abit confused about your instruction above.

What do you mean by put them all in the same folder and run HPQPDP.zip? Are you referring to the HPQPDP.zip the one which is about 3mb in size? What do I have to do with the first 20 zip files. It seems that I have to use winzip to join them together. If I use Winzip to join the first 20 zip file together, won’t the system confused since there are two HPQPDP folders?
Thanks for your help!
August 21st, 2007 at 2:18 pm
Paul, here’s what I mean. You download the 20 zip (they have z01 02 type extensions) files onto your desktop. Then you download the 21st 3MB file named HPQPDP.zip onto your desktop too.
What I meant by all the files being in the same folder was that if you downloaded them into, say, c:\downloads, you just make sure that all 21 files are in the that same folder (c:\downloads in this case), and then you open the file called HPQPDP.zip, which is the 3 MB file, and that will extract data from the hpqpdp01 to 20 files, and you can, in turn, extract the data from these 21 files into the folder c:\swsetup\hpqpdp, where you will then have the actual files you need to install Quick Play Direct.
I’m sorry if you already knew that, but I’ve had a lot of questions on how to open sliced, zipped files, and a lot of people are confused about how to do it. Let me know if there’s still confusion.

Asif,
Thanks for your speedy response. I am currently downloading all the files. My ISP Download speed is quite slow (about 50kb/s). When I downloaded all the files, I will tell you whether it works. I have another question, you mentioned that I put all the extract file in the C:\swsetup\hpqpdp folder but in another thread, I believe you mentioned that the extract file should be in X:\swsetup\hpqpdp. Which drive should I put in C Drive or X Drive?
Thanks for your help. I appreciate it!
August 21st, 2007 at 2:35 pm
C:. X: will be a raw partition. You won’t be able to extract it to X:.

Asif,
Good luck with the lawsuit. As far as I’m concerned, the fact that HP is advertising QuickPlay and not delivering the intended functionality is false advertising and opens them up to a class action lawsuit. I know that part of the reason why I bought this new HP and spent extra money in the process is because I loved the QuickPlay on my old HP. Of course QuickPlay isn’t the only program that they advertised that doesn’t work in Vista, but there’s only so much time in a day.

Matt,
There is most certainly a class action lawsuit here. Only problem is, it’s pretty difficult getting one managed remotely, and since I’m not in the US, it is quite a challenge to convince lawyers over the phone that I am a real person.

Hello Asif. Thank you so much for making this website. Like many other people here I enjoyed QuickPlay but I formatted my harddrive to get rid of all the bloatware without knowing it was going to be so hard to get this software back. I literally got goosebumps when I stumbled across your site.
I have a quick question though, can I not use the QuickPlay buttons that are located at the top of my laptop with the QuickPlay Windows version? My laptop is a Pavilion dv9207us. I downloaded your QuickPlay Windows 3.0 then updated it to 3.4. The direct play version is cool but all the steps required just to play a dvd from being off then going straight to the program isn’t worth it to me. I just want to be able to use the QuickPlay buttons with QuickPlay software along with my remote.
Anyways, thanks for all your effort to get this software back to users who want it. Very cruel and lazy of HP not offering it as a download on their site or giving us some a driver cd to install it. Also wish you luck on your lawsuit.

Hi Asif,
When I tried to run HPQPDP.zip, it says the CRC failed for data2.cab and invalid compressed data to inflate for data3.cab and data4.cab.
What seems to be the problem? I tried downloading the file a few times, but I get the same result.
August 24th, 2007 at 2:54 pm
What are u using to extract the file? Try Winzip 11 or Winrar.
August 24th, 2007 at 2:56 pm
Chaos,
You can use the buttons on te laptop. You’ll need to get the Quick Launch Button driver for your laptop from ho.com. I’ve used both, and granted you can do with QPW, the battery lasts muuch longer on QPD. Get the QLB drivers from the website, and you’ll be able to use the buttons and the remote just fine.
Let me know if there are any problems.

Well, I tried to install QuickPlay with 3 partitions and the entire system crashed hard. Now, I can’t get HP’s Restore CD to work. How hard is it to create a Restore CD that works. This computer is going back to HP. Too bad. HPs used to be so nice.
Matt
August 24th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
Told you, my friend. Two’s company, three’s a crowd on hp with QuickPlay Direct. I bet the restore CD gets stuck at 51% or something. You can just install XP Pro or Vista, but the recovery CD just doesn’t work.
August 24th, 2007 at 9:00 pm
Yep, the restore CD takes a few hours and then says there’s a mismatch of something or other and fails. I contacted HP and they said they can send a new recovery DVD in a couple days. How much you want to bet that that DVD doesn’t work also. So frustrating.
August 24th, 2007 at 9:31 pm
I already bought one of those for the dv2120us. It didn’t work. And they kept telling me I was doing something wrong. That’s the only thing they’re good at: trying to prove customer incompetence.
