Why China & Russia Vetoed Mugabe Sanctions
With the recent ‘sham’ election in Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe’s never ending shameless whore-like attitude, and his desperation to power, it is no surprise that the USA and UK have worked hard to impose sanctions and restrictions of Mugabe and his ‘terrorist’ rule, only to have their plans shot down the hole by Russia and China.
Why, but, some of the developed world wonders, have both Russia and China used their right to veto against imposing sanctions on the African crook? Is it because Russia and China support his crooked regime? Is it because they truly believe that whatever Mugabe does to the people of Zimbabwe is their own problem? No. If you actually bought into that political reason, well, maybe it is time to look a little deeper.
China and Russia’s reason to say no to imposing sanctions on Zimbabwe goes much deeper, and is much older, than the sham election and murderous regime of Robert Mugabe. The primary reason the sanctions were vetoed were as an answer to the United States of America; lately, if you haven’t noticed, everyone is tired of, in the words of the late George Carlin, tired of the US projecting their affairs into other people’s business. If it’s Zimbabwe today, it could be China or Russia tomorrow, and neither China nor Russia wants to go down that path, which is probably a smart thing, because such meddling in Russian or Chinese affairs could mean a world war. If you think Iran is the problem, well maybe you ought to sit back and have a look.
Iran, yes, given the recent exchange of dialog between Iran, the US, and Israel, it comes as no surprise that Russia or China will give the US no reason, or any encouragement to interfere in the business of other people. You see, unfortunately, the US claim and reasoning for not letting Iran become a nuclear power or achieve Uranium enrichment is no deeper than Israel. Its constant demand that Iran drop that plan is simply, well, stupid. If Israel can develop a nuclear weapon, why can’t Iran? The answer: simply because the US is bullying them, and some kids don’t deal well with bullies.
What America misses about Russia and China is that the enemy of an enemy is a friend, and enemies of the shape and form of Russia and China do not like being dictated terms too, which is why, in essence, that the US needs to shut its trap about Iran, let Israel deal with its own issues (which will not happen), so that other world powers stop looking at America as trying to be the big bully, but actually perceive her as a big, responsible power. It is this attitude of the US, and cheesy counterplay by Russia and China, which will, sadly, make it worse for the Zimbabweans. It’s a pity what has happened there, and we would hope that China and Russia acted less politically, and more in a humanitarian way, as we would hope that the US tries less to intimidate others and gain their respect, which would probably have been more effective here.
